From the Mysterious J (seen above as The Masked American before a show in Wentworth, NC) for Billy Polar (who is MIA and thought to be a POW in Afghanistan) From Waffleman: Answer: That's simple- there is no difference. The pain is the same, it only APPEARS to hurt more when you miss because you're embarrassed as well as taking a bump from the top. When you connect, you ignore the pain because you know you delivered some to your opponent. When you miss, you know you took a hard bump for nothing. NOTHING! It hurts, both mentally and physically. Not to mention having the wind knocked out of you if you don't release it when you hit or suffer whiplash from not tucking your chin. (Insider tip- you can tuck all you want, you bump from the top, you're gonna whiplash) Summary= Hit opponent = damage to both due to bony, irregular surfaces. Miss Opponent = damage to your body AND your psyche on flat, smooth (not very soft in some rings) surface.
