Disclaimer: I haven't even finished making this myself (mainly because I keep using it). It's tedious, difficult and extremely time consuming; but you can push through it.
Discard donut
Cut fins off tube
Cut tube lengthways into two halves
These two halves are curved, make them as flat as possible
'Glass grade' is essential
The sides need to be very short, but still have some room for later
Connect the back ends and 2/3 of the sides
Roll the other 1/3 up so that it makes a curve
Round one end of a fin and attach to side so that this 1/3 stays curved upwards
Repeat three more times
That's about where I'm up to
The theory is to attach more fins all the way around and then half fill
It doesn't work if you squeeze the structured part, I'm thinking handles or finger holes
Obviously it's flawed, hence the title of the post
