Yeah, I did.
Johnny Weaver would come in every year at the Carolina Wrestling Federation's Johnny Weaver Cup Tournament to present the trophey to the winner. So, I've met Mr. Weaver every year for the last three tournaments in the summers of '05, '06, and '07.
At a special show in Nov 2005 I got to work with Mr. Weaver and got the privledge of being choked out by the "Weaver Lock" when he put the sleeper hold on me after I bad mouthed him. It was in a high school gym, with about 1200 fans there, and when he locked that sleeper on it popped like there were 12,000. Still the loudest cheer I've been a part of.
While I slumped towards the canvas, he leaned in and whispered, "Thank you, kid."
Johnny Weaver was THANKING ME. It was fucking awesome and will forever be one of, if not THE highlight of my *ahem* wrestling career.
He was truly a class act and a legend in the Mid-Atlantic area for many years.
Needless to say, I was a bit down yesterday when I heard the news. Just a nice guy and one of the best.
